On April 20, May 18, and June 8, 2019, Bee Wild, in conjunction with Rescue Bee Sanctuary in Lawrenceville, will be hosting our Spring Urban Beekeeping classes.beekeeper

Many of our customers have expressed an interest in starting their own beehive, but have no idea how (and believe us, this isn't something you want to do if you don't know how!).  So, Bee Wild has teamed up with the Rescue Bee Sanctuary in Lawrenceville to teach a series of beekeeping classes.

Beekeeping is a seasonal activity - there are different tasks in Spring, Autumn, and Winter and our class focuses on the seasonality of the hobby, rather than the generic "beginner, intermediate, and advanced" approach.  Urban Beekeeping is designed to adapt to the individual needs of the class members, whether it's beginning skills or helping more experienced students learn the finer points.  The class will give you the basic skills to get started in beekeeping, focusing on Spring activities when the bees are just starting to produce.. The class is 4 hours of structured learning and an hour of Q&A.  It includes LOTS of hands-on time getting you comfortable with actually handling a beehive.  We'll cover bee basics (anatomy, diseases, etc) as well as hive structure, honey production and extraction, hive placement, pest management - in short, whatever gets you comfortable actually starting a hive.  The skills you learn in class should get you through your first year of beekeeping.

We can act as your one-stop source for beekeeping equipment, info, and even bees!  We'll also offer a telephone, email, or video chat coaching (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) so you have access to someone who can help you with any questions or issues with your hive.  You'll also get access to our new beekeeper's podcast - we NEVER run out of things to talk about when it comes to bees!

The class is $75 and the size is limited to 10 participants and is non-refundable.  A signed liability waiver is required and we provide class materials, as well as safety equipment.  Our hands-on time with the bees is vital, so in case of rain, the class will take place the weekend after (or even 2 weeks later if it rains again!).  Instructions to contact the teacher in case of rain will be emailed to you.

You may register online, or for more info on our next class, feel free to call John Wright at 678-294-0896.
