I’m not a doctor, so I don’t diagnose or prescribe anything. But in my quest for increasing wellness, longevity, and youthing, I have found some of the best support in holistic wellness circles. I’d like to share a long time folk remedy that has helped me immensely – Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar.
My wellness challenges don’t mix very well. I have issues created by residual nerve damage and brain trauma from an electrical accident at work in 1999 coupled with nutritional side effects from weight loss surgery in 2007. Over time the nutritional deficits caused problems, and at the moment I’m dealing with heart rhythm anomalies.
Traditional medicine isn’t working that well, since I’ve been dealing with the same issue with little improvement for over a year, and I was talking to a friend who just finished reading The Magnesium Miracle by Dr. Carolyn Dean. So, I went on her website and found out that she herself took ionic magnesium and electrolytes to deal with heart rhythm issues. So, I started taking magnesium and electrolytes in small amounts. By the way, I did see improvement in my heart rhythms almost immediately.
The thing I’ve found about food and supplement support for your body’s healing is that it’s a process. So, when I started supplementing the missing minerals, my body started dumping what it didn’t want to hold on to through my skin, urine, and feces. Think of this as pouring clean water into a glass full of muddy water. Eventually, the glass will hold pure water, but in the meantime, the muddy water spills out of the glass. You may have heard this process called, “detox response.” Bottom line is that I have a rash.
The first thing I did when the rash came up is check in with a holistic doctor I know. As a result, I reduced the amount of ionic minerals I’m taking and started a go-more-slowly practice. The next thing I did was research holistic skin support. I found hundreds of articles on the use of Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar. The funny thing is that my roommate is going to the Quick Weight Loss Center, and they recommend Apple Cider Vinegar in water to work with water retention. So, I was not surprised to find a synergistic support between Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar.
Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar is a long-time folk remedy. People have used this combination for thousands of years. It is said that Hippocrates first used a tonic of water, Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar in 400 B.C. See http://bragg.com/index.html. There are thousands of testimonies about lymph drainage and, therefore, less water retention, improvements for arthritis and colds, and so on. So, I started with 1 tsp honey and 1 tsp raw organic Apple Cider Vinegar, shaken so that some of the “mother” gets into the drink, in a glass of water. (The “mother” is where the enzymes and other nutrients are.) I noticed that I did release retained water – lost 2 lbs and 2 notches in my belt size in one day.
Then, I added 1 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar to a hot as I could stand it bath, even though I did smell a little bit like salad dressing af. Then, soaked until the water was cool. The bath definitely soothed the rash. When I patted dry, I dabbed a little of our raw, wild-crafted honey on the rash. Then, periodically throughout the day, I also slathered our Honey Body Souffle – Fresh Citrus on the rash. So far, the rash is less angry, there’s less of it, and the swelling has reduced.
Since my weight loss surgery, my body doesn’t digest pills or capsules very well. Additionally, I can’t take any form of NSAIDs, so most over-the-counter “allergy” remedies are out of the question for me. These factors do play into my health choices.
However, I decided years ago that I wanted to be well and mobile, not just symptom free. So, I always look at traditional and non-traditional information and follow my body’s lead when I make wellness decisions.
I definitely would recommend trying Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar tonic for reducing swelling. But, again, I am not a doctor. You need to check this out with your medical team.
